Research Presentation
The following presentation is the product of an applied evaluation of the usage of eight websites disseminating urban development research findings to an international audience.
This module describes
how the evaluations were undertaken
and informs readers of the methods and tools needed to conduct their own studies.
As a result of this research the project team has defined a set of website design guidelines appropriate to the dissemination of development research.In the example evaluations shown each website is assessed according to six key components of website production
(note 1).
These are:
Architecture;
Technology;
Style;
Content;
Strategy; and
Management.
Each component is examined using a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods, namely:
Observation;
Automated Tests;
Usability Tests;
a User Survey;
a Webmaster Survey; and
Telephone Interviews.
Conclusions concerning the appropriateness of key qualities associated with each component are then made. These twelve website qualities are:
Accessibility;
Appearance;
Authority;
Availability;
Clarity of purpose;
Interactivity;
Marketing;
Navigability;
Content Quality;
Readability;
Relevancy; and
Timeliness.
Clicking on the 'next page' arrow in the bottom right-hand corner of this webpage will lead you through the Research Presentation.
The presentation is accompanied by a set of Notes, containing links to further resources. All acronyms and key terms are defined in a Glossary and Acronyms webpage.
